CA Recall Election Debate

In 2003 Language Removal Services hosted the world's first (and, to the best of our knowledge, only) completely language-free political debate, to accompany the controversial California Recall Election of 2003, in which then-governor Gray Davis was replaced by Arnold Schwarzenegger. Our foremost aim was to both arm the voters of California with important information to help them make their decision. This election, with its farcical, perhaps even unconstitutional overtones, seemed like an appropriate arena for us to experiment with new and untested technology. The debate was aired nationally on National Public Radio's All Things Considered and the clips were made available to voters through our website. You can hear highlights of several of the leading candidates below.

  • Arianna Huffington
  • Arnold Schwarzenegger
  • Peter Camejo
  • Cruz Bustamante
  • Gray Davis
  • Tom McClintock
  • Peter Ueberroth
